Aventura is one of the oldest cities in Florida, by age

This is not a marketing line. According to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, one in four Aventura residents is 65 or older. The city skews older than Florida as a whole, and it is overwhelmingly multilingual.

46.9Median age

Source: U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, Aventura city, Florida. Population estimate 39,880 as of July 2025.

Those two numbers explain why we built this the way we did. A gym serving Aventura that only trains 25-year-olds and only operates in English is ignoring most of the neighborhood.

Getting here from Aventura

Aventura is the northernmost city in Miami-Dade County. Hallandale Beach is the southernmost city in Broward County. The two share a border, which is why the drive is short and why it is a straight line.

US-1 runs through both. In Miami-Dade it is called Biscayne Boulevard. The moment you cross into Broward it becomes Federal Highway. Same road, new name. You never turn off it.

📍 Directions from Aventura Mall

Leave Aventura Mall onto Biscayne Blvd and head north. Stay on it for about 3 miles. It becomes N Federal Hwy after you cross into Hallandale Beach. We are at 601 N Federal Hwy on your right, just past Hallandale Beach Blvd. Suite 208, second floor.

601 N Federal Hwy, Ste 208, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009

About 10 minutes in normal traffic. Free covered parking in the garage attached to the building, and an elevator that opens right at our door.

What we actually do

Four things, run as one program. You are never handed a printout and left alone on a machine.

💪

Strength Training 50+

Progressive resistance work. Loads start at what you can do today and go up as you adapt, one variable at a time.

🧍

Mobility and Balance

Joint range of motion, gait and single-leg work. We train around your limitations instead of pretending they are not there.

📈

Metabolic Testing

PNOE metabolic analysis and body composition, so your training and food targets come from your numbers instead of a template.

🎓

Mentor-Led Sessions

Groups of six or fewer, or one-on-one. A certified mentor is watching every rep. No open-gym hours, no unsupervised machines.

Getting in the door

For a lot of people over 50, the building matters as much as the program. Here is exactly what you are walking into:

What a first visit looks like

The free assessment runs a full hour, 60 minutes. We measure body composition, screen your mobility and balance, and talk through your history and what you actually want to be able to do again. You leave with a written plan whether or not you sign up.

If we are not the right fit for you, we will tell you. We would rather send you somewhere better than take money for something that will not work.

Mickael and Priscilla, founders of The Lab Vitality Club

Meet the founders

Mickael and Priscilla started The Lab after watching the fitness industry treat everyone over 50 as an afterthought. They ran the first clubs in Panama beginning in 2016 and brought the same method to Hallandale Beach, ten minutes from Aventura.

Frequently asked questions

How far is The Lab Vitality Club from Aventura?
About 3 miles, roughly 10 minutes by car. From Aventura you drive north on Biscayne Boulevard (US-1). The road changes name to Federal Highway when you cross the county line into Hallandale Beach. We are at 601 N Federal Hwy, Ste 208, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009.
Is Hallandale Beach north or south of Aventura?
North. Aventura is the northernmost city in Miami-Dade County and Hallandale Beach is the southernmost city in Broward County. They share a border, so you drive north on US-1 to get here from Aventura.
Is there a gym near Aventura built for adults over 50?
Yes. The Lab Vitality Club trains adults 50 and over exclusively, in small groups of up to 6 people or one-on-one. Every session is supervised by a mentor. We do not run open-gym hours and there are no unsupervised machines.
Is parking easy, and is the second floor a problem?
Parking is free and covered, in the garage attached to the building, so you are never walking in the rain or the sun. We are on the second floor and there is an elevator that opens right at our door. Once inside, everything is on a single level.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Sessions are run in English or Spanish, whichever you prefer, and you can switch at any time. In Aventura 68.4 percent of residents speak a language other than English at home, so this is not an afterthought for us.
Do I need to be in shape to start?
No. Most of our members had not trained in years when they started. The first session sets the starting loads to what you can do that day, and we build from there.
Is it safe with my age, my pain or my health condition?
Yes, this is exactly who we work with. Our members live with arthritis, osteoporosis, Parkinson's, joint replacements, decades of back pain… People over 50 with real conditions aren't the exception at The Lab; they're the norm. We start gently, measure how your body responds, and adjust every week. You'll never be pushed like a 25-year-old, because you're not one, and that's precisely the point. If you are in active treatment, bring us your doctor's guidance and we build around it. We work alongside your physician, never instead of them.
How long is a session and how often should I come?
Sessions run about 45 minutes. Most members train about 3 times a week. We build the schedule around what you can sustain, not around a package we want to sell.
What does the free assessment include?
A 60-minute evaluation: body composition, a mobility and balance screen, a conversation about your history and what you want to be able to do, and a written plan. If we are not the right fit for you, we will say so.
Are you physical therapists?
No, and we will never pretend to be. Our mentors are strength training professionals specialized in adults over 50, not physical therapists, and we do not diagnose, treat or replace medical care. What we build is strength, mobility and balance, which is what independence actually runs on: getting out of a chair on your own, carrying groceries, walking without holding on to something. Many of our members live with chronic pain and come to us after physical therapy has ended. Building strength is one of the tools that can help people in that situation get function back, but it is not a treatment and we do not promise outcomes. If you are in active care, we work alongside your doctor or therapist rather than instead of them.
Do you accept Medicare or health insurance?
We don't accept Medicare, Medicare Advantage or any private health insurance, and there's an honest reason why. Insurance pays to treat you once you're already injured or sick; it almost never pays to make you strong enough to stay out of the doctor's office in the first place. Working outside that system lets us build your program around what your body actually needs, not around what a policy covers. Think about what strength, balance and energy buy you after 50: fewer falls, fewer visits, more independent years doing what you love. Our members put it best: this is the one insurance that pays you back every single day you use it.
Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for this?
Possibly. We have partnered with Truemed, a telehealth and payments company. You complete a short health survey, an independent licensed clinician reviews it, and if you qualify they issue a Letter of Medical Necessity that lets you put pre-tax HSA or FSA dollars toward your annual membership. For qualified members that is a tax savings of about 30 percent on average. Eligibility is conditional and individual: it is not automatic, not everyone qualifies, and your plan administrator makes the final call. Truemed is the Merchant of Record on the transaction and its cost is included in the purchase price. This is not tax or medical advice. Truemed is for qualified customers and HSA/FSA tax savings vary. See truemed.com/disclosures.
